Have a go to see how cyber safe you are with our interactive Cyber safety quiz

For tips and suggestions on how to be safe online, have a read at our list of how to be safe online (below the quiz)

  • Do not post or give any personal information online  i.e. your address, email address or mobile number.

  • Be careful what you share especially picture or videos of yourself. Even if you're keeping posts private, it doesn't guarantee that other people won't be able to see it. For example, if you share a photo with your friends, they can easily save it to their computers then they are able to share it or post it to other website without  you knowing. You shouldn't post something online unless you're comfortable with  everyone in the world seeing it.

  • Keep your privacy settings as high as possible and check your privacy settings often. Social media sites such as Facebook may adjust privacy and account settings from time to time without informing users, so review your settings to  ensure you are happy with the settings and your information, posts and photos  are as private as you want them to be.

  • Never give out your passwords. By giving your password to someone else, you  allow them to see everything as well as pretend to be you online.

  • Don’t accept a friend request or talk to people you don’t know. If you are unsure, ask your parents. It may be tempting or make you feel popular to have thousands of "friends" online but this will increase the amount of people who can see your posts, your photos and personal information then can increase the risk of this information being shared with the world.

  • Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer  immediately if a person or people suggesting you do.

  • If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried

    • don’t reply to bullies, stop all communication

    • leave the website

    • Collect and keep records (screenshots, names, dates). This information may assist police with their investigations

    • report this person/s to an adult turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

  • Monitor your children when using media devices by having their passwords to access their accounts, checking their profiles, and browsing history and use parental controls to prevent access to inappropriate sites

Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are
